Good morning and Happy Wednesday, Sunnyside friends!
This newsletter is going to be egg-stra awesome (and a tad bit longer) because we are taking this moment to honor our beloved Sunnyside chickens. As you may know, we have had a bit of a rodent problem develop in our chicken coop. Our district leaders have requested we remove the chickens from the campus out of caution for the health and safety of students and employees. We too are devastated by the news, and we know how deeply these chickens are loved and cared for by the SES community; but we have made the difficult decision to rehome them to a family farm in Milwaukie.
Please share the disappointing news with your student, as the chickens are part of what makes Sunnyside so special. While we will miss them deeply, our wonderful Garden Coordinator, Nathan, will be reimagining new ways to use the soon-vacant garden space. He is bursting with ideas, and your kids will get to help that vision come to life. We are planning to commemorate the SES chickens before they make their exit, and we are hoping to plan a fond farewell celebration next week. Details to come soon!
Sincerely,
Dr. Eryn Berg, Principal SES and PTSA Co-Presidents Auburn & Heather
