THE 2020 BACK TO SCHOOL ASK

Our Back-to-School Request helps fund Sunnyside’s enrichment programs such as:
  • SES Gardening and Outdoor Classroom Program
  • Virtual Art And Music Enrichment Program
  • Teacher Grants
  • Virtual Field Studies

The amount requested ($90 per student) is determined by calculating roughly what all of our fundraising needs are to support SES each year, and then dividing the number of students enrolled at SES.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Some of you have shared that you feel fortunate and lucky, expressed that you want to give more than you have in the past and asked how to do so. Other community members are experiencing traumatic financial hardship, and we understand that you may not be able to contribute at all. The pandemic has revealed the spectrum of home/job/life experiences that are alive within our community during this unprecedented time in our lives. If you are able to give more, thank you. If you are not, we’ve got you. Everyone is better only when everyone is better, and as a school it is our job to meet the needs of each and every child, as well as each and every family.

Please give as you are able and know that we will continue to hold fundraisers as we can safely and there may be small classroom asks as appropriate throughout the year to support all of our students, classrooms, and grades.

Your donations pay for important programs unique to Sunnyside which are not funded by PPS. It takes all of us to make Sunnyside a special school. If you have questions or concerns please go to sesptsa.com and click on the “contact” pull down menu to contact us. There is also a section of our website called “Where does the Money Go?” which will explain more about our yearly budget.

I can help! Please visit www.schoolpay.com, use the “nonprofit groups” tab on the left to find our BTS ask to make a tax deductible contribution (you can sign up here for a recurring monthly donation as well). Your school pay may have different nonprofit groups depending on what other schools your kiddos attend.

If you would prefer to pay by check, please make your check payable to SES PTSA and mail your contribution to:

SES PTSA
3421 SE Salmon St.
Portland OR 97214

Every dollar and every cent is helpful and appreciated and serves all the kids at SES.

Thank You!

SES PTSA Newsletter 09-15-2022

Good afternoon, Sunnyside Families and Friends! 🌻 😎 🌞 ☀ 🕶

THANK YOU to the dozens of amazing parents and teachers who joined us for the first PTSA meeting last week! We are beyond thrilled to have so many people ready to roll up their sleeves with us this year! If you couldn’t join us, no worries, this weekly newsletter will be a great way to stay connected! Our first big volunteer need is with Harvest Fair, coming up at the end of next month!

Volunteers Needed to Help Sell Pies! (NEW!) 🎂 🍰

Do you like pie? Want to help raise money for Sunnyside? Our fourth annual pie sale is coming up and we need help putting up flyers, staffing our table at the Harvest Fair, and distributing pies on November 16th. Anyone who is interested please contact Valerie Kahn at vdutton.

Wanted: Classroom Family Representatives / Room Parents 💌 👂 🍪

We still need volunteers for Art, Gardening, and P.E. and for MaryGage’s classroom.

I’m Emily Lillywhite, fellow SES grown-up and this year’s Classroom Family Coordinator. Each year, we ask that two adults fill the role of Classroom Family Representative for each class. Typical duties of this shared role include: Creating and sharing classroom families contact information, sending a simple weekly email communicating classroom goings-on, liaising with teachers to make sure they have enough family support for class activities, etc. It’s an easy way to get to know both your kiddo’s teacher and classroom community better. Please reach out if you’re interested or have any questions: emilylillywhite. And know that all the teachers & the community at large will super appreciate it. Thanks!!

SES Harvest Fair is Saturday, October 22!! 🎃 🍂

Mark your calendar now for Harvest Fair! Saturday, October 22, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Free entry, carnival tickets sold in advance and day-of. ALL are welcome to attend. You can look forward to games and activities galore, fresh apple cider, sausages from Franks-A-Lot, a Seed Exchange, the famous Cookie Palace, and a community meal courtesy of Bamboo Grove Hawaiian Grille. It’s going to be magical.

We need new families to step up and take on the following projects: Dunk Tank, Apple Cider Press, Community Meal, and the Baked Goodie Boogie. Kindergarten, Third, Fourth and Fifth grades all have special roles to play, too. Learn more about the key roles and SIGN UP HERE.

Want to get involved? Unsure but excited? New ideas? Contact Steph Barnhart at stephbarnhart1.

Truck Needed!
Do you have a flatbed truck 🚚 and could help us pick up some equipment on 10/22? Do you know a bluegrass jam band? Other ideas? Contact Steph Barnhart at stephbarnhart1. Full volunteer sign-up will be available 9/23! Stay tuned for more!

Merch Fundraiser brought in over $2400!! 👕 👚 🤑
Our merch campaign just concluded and we raised $768 and made sure that there are a bunch of cuties running around campus in SES tees! We started this fundraiser last spring and the total tally for both rounds is $2442! THANK YOU! And if you missed out, we’ll do another round (with new colors and options!) in December!

Sunnyside Bike Bus! 🎒 🏫 🚲 🚴

Let’s bike to school together! On Wednesday, October 12, Sunnyside students and families will ride bikes to school together to celebrate alidacantor.

BACK TO SCHOOL ASK! 💰 💲

Each year EVERY family is asked to contribute $150 per student to go toward the Garden and Sustainability program, Administrative Academic Support, Music and Art Specials, Scholarships, and Field Studies. Our goal is $20,000 and we are more than halfway there! If you aren’t able to contribute $150 at this time, we invite you to pay whatever makes sense for you or pay incrementally. And if you can offer more, please do! Back to School Ask here.

Go Bowling in September, Earn Cash for SES 🎳 💵

Restaurant Night fundraisers have returned! First up: Throughout September, c.yilk).

NEXT PTSA MEETING! 👬 🤓 🙂

October 7 @ 8:45am! We will have coffee ☕ again from Oblique roasters, plus a chance for some dirty volunteer work following the meeting! We’re seeking six or seven volunteers to help us from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, October 7th to help us clear out space in the basement to prep for Harvest Fair! 🍂 🍁 This is your chance to see some seriously vintage items in the broiler room… 👵 🗝 💺 📚 and it will really help us out! Email us if you are interested (see our addresses below)!
